Private Banking, Onboarded Properly

We place your personal banking with an institution that fits the profile, prepare the file to the standard its compliance team applies, and keep it consistent with how your company is banked.

Fit

Who This is for

You have just received residency and need an account this month.

Salary, rent, school fees and the Emirates ID process all assume a functioning local account.

You own the company and you are being banked as two different people.

The corporate application says one thing about your wealth; the personal application says another. Compliance at the same institution reads both.

Your wealth was built somewhere else.

Capital accumulated over decades in another country, in a currency or a sector that requires explanation, and now needs to arrive here with documentation attached.

You want a relationship rather than a counter.

Multi-currency holdings, deposits, investment access, lending against assets, and a named person who answers the phone when a large transfer is queried.

You are relocating and sequencing matters.

Accounts abroad are being closed or restructured while UAE accounts are being opened, and the order affects both.

Residency

What Residency Changes

Before residencyNon-resident banking — narrower on every axis

Options exist but carry more conditions and often higher balance requirements, and are more likely to be restricted in what they can do — limited channels, restricted transfers, or more frequent review.

With a visa + Emirates IDThe standard resident product set opens

Full transactional banking, salary transfer arrangements, local credit facilities, and access to the priority and private tiers on ordinary terms.

Note

Residency for banking is not the same as tax residency. Holding a residence visa and holding a tax residency certificate are separate matters with separate tests — and institutions abroad look at the second, not only the first.

Tiers

Relationship Tiers

Institutions structure personal banking in bands, and the naming differs between them. What is consistent is the shape.

Tier 01Everyday

Transactional, assessed largely by rule. Fine for salary and household spending, thin on anything requiring a decision.

Tier 02Priority or Premier

A relationship manager, better FX treatment, faster routine handling, wider product access. Entry by salary transfer, balances, or assets under management.

Tier 03Private or Wealth

A dedicated banker, investment access, structured deposits, multi-currency booking, portfolio lending — and a file read by someone with authority.

Why it matters

Tier affects assessment. A profile a standard retail process cannot resolve is sometimes straightforward at a private banking desk. Not a route around compliance; a route to a reader.

One story

How Personal and Corporate Banking Interact

For owner-managed businesses these are not two separate exercises, and treating them as such causes avoidable problems.

The classic errorMixing the two

Company receipts landing in a personal account creates a bookkeeping problem, a corporate tax problem and a compliance problem at once. Banks notice the pattern quickly.

The same institution sees both files

If the corporate application describes a modest consultancy and the personal application discloses substantial international assets, someone will ask why. The answer may be entirely ordinary — but it needs to be stated, not discovered.

Salary transfer affects tier

Where the owner’s own company pays the salary, how that is structured influences which personal tier is available.

Personal guarantees run the other way

Corporate facilities frequently rest on the owner’s personal standing, so the personal file supports the corporate one.

Sequence matters

Usually the corporate account is the harder application and benefits from the owner already being known to the institution. Sometimes the reverse. Decided at assessment, not by default.

Preparation

What We Need from You

Foreign documents commonly require attestation and legal translation before an institution will accept them. Building that time into the sequence avoids an otherwise complete file waiting on a consulate.

Timeline and Cost

A resident with an Emirates ID, a local employment contract and a straightforward wealth history is a short process. A file involving substantial foreign assets, several source countries, or wealth built through businesses that no longer exist takes longer — and the time sits in verification rather than form-filling. Private and wealth tiers are not necessarily slower; they are often faster, because the file reaches someone who can decide.

Our fee is fixed and agreed in writing before we start, against a defined scope, and anchored to the work — never a percentage of the assets you hold or transfer. Bank charges, minimum balances and product fees are the institution’s and paid to it directly.

Entry criteria for tiers are set by the institution, differ between them and change. We confirm the current position before you apply rather than quoting a threshold you will be held to.

Complications

Where it Goes Wrong

Opening whatever was easiest on arrival

A basic account taken in the first week because it was quick, then a discovery months later that the relationship cannot handle a property purchase or a large inbound transfer. Changing tier is a fresh assessment, not a phone call.

Treating source of wealth as a conversation

Explaining a thirty-year career at a meeting and providing nothing to support it. The banker may believe you entirely; the file still has to satisfy a reviewer who was not in the room.

Personal and corporate files that contradict each other

Different stated occupations, different asset pictures, different expected turnover. The inconsistency is usually careless rather than concealing anything — and it is treated the same way either way.

A large first transfer nobody was warned about

An account opened for salary receives a seven-figure inbound transfer in its first month. The transfer is held, the account is reviewed, and the customer experiences it as an accusation. Telling the institution what is coming avoids the whole episode.

Assuming a residence visa settles the tax question

It does not, and foreign institutions asking for self-certification will apply their own tests. Getting this wrong creates reporting problems abroad that surface long after the account is open.

Letting the account go dormant

Accounts opened during setup and left unused are subject to dormancy handling, and reactivation can require as much documentation as opening did.

FAQ

Questions

What is the difference between private banking and priority banking?

Priority is an enhanced retail relationship: a relationship manager, better pricing, faster service. Private banking adds investment advisory or discretionary management, structured products, lending against assets and a materially higher level of individual attention.

Can I open a personal account before my residence visa is issued?

Sometimes, in a non-resident form and with conditions attached. In most cases it is better to sequence the visa, the Emirates ID and the account rather than open something restricted and try to convert it later.

Do I have to move a minimum amount to get a private banking relationship?

Institutions set entry criteria by balances, assets under management or salary, and these differ and change. We confirm the current requirement for the specific institution rather than quoting a figure.

Can you guarantee the account will be approved?

No. The decision belongs to the bank. What we control is which institution receives the file, which tier it goes to, and what is in it.

Will opening a UAE account be reported to my home country?

The UAE participates in international information exchange, and reporting follows tax residence rather than nationality or where the account sits. What is reported, and to whom, depends on your circumstances.

Should I open the personal or the corporate account first?

It depends on which is the harder application and whether being known to the institution helps the other file. We decide the order at assessment rather than by default.
