The Sequencing Rule
Steps one to three cannot be run alongside step four: the dependant application is assessed against a sponsor who must already exist in the system as a resident.
Complete, in the system — not approved in principle.
The dependant file is assessed against an issued identity document.
Registered contract or licence, tenancy, and the income the sponsorship is assessed against.
Only now.
From inside the UAE where their current status permits it.
For each dependant of the applicable age.
For each dependant.
The document work is independent of all seven steps: attestation and translation of marriage and birth certificates, done in the country of issue. Start it the day the relocation is decided.
Who This is for
And you want the family file opened immediately, in the right order, with the documents already attested rather than started from scratch.
And the residence applications need to be timed around their entry and any status change.
And needs to be registered, documented and sponsored — a sequence with its own steps that runs on a clock.
And have been told different things about whether it is possible, on what income, and for how long.
And the family is now sitting on expiring visit visas.
New employer, new company, cancellation — and you need to know what happens to the dependants sponsored under you.
Who Can Be Sponsored
On a marriage certificate attested and translated for use in the UAE. A certificate that satisfied another country’s authorities is not automatically in acceptable form here.
On attested birth certificates showing both parents. Where a child is sponsored by one parent alone, or where there has been a divorce, custody documentation and consent are part of the file. Age conditions apply, and they differ for sons and unmarried daughters.
Possible, subject to conditions — income, accommodation, insurance and dependency among them. Materially more demanding than for a spouse or child, and assessed case by case.
Sponsored by an individual rather than a company, carrying obligations of their own — permits, contract, insurance and wage arrangements. An employment relationship with a household as the employer.
Birth certificate, attestation, a passport from the relevant consulate, then residency — in that order, and within a period after birth.

What We Need from You
If your certificates are not yet attested, that is the first thing to start.
Timeline and Cost
Where the sponsor is fully resident, the documents are attested and the family is inside the UAE, dependant visas run in weeks — medical, biometrics and issuance. Where documents still need attestation abroad, the timeline is set by the issuing country and its UAE mission, not by the UAE. This routinely accounts for most of the elapsed time in a family relocation, and it is the part clients most often start last.
Where the family is arriving on visit visas, the residence process has to be planned against the expiry of those visas — a family that overstays while waiting turns a straightforward file into a fines problem. Our fee is fixed and agreed in writing, priced per family rather than per interaction.
Where a sponsor’s position does not currently support the application — income, accommodation or status — we say so at assessment, so the alternative can be arranged rather than a refusal collected.
Get a Fixed QuoteWhere it Goes Wrong
The single most common cause of delay in this area. Filed early, it is rejected on the sponsor and refiled from the beginning — fees paid twice, and the family arriving later than if nothing had been attempted.
Marriage and birth certificates must be attested through the full chain, and part of that chain sits in the country that issued them. It cannot be accelerated from Dubai. Families discover this after arriving.
A room in shared accommodation, a lease in an employer’s name, or an unregistered contract will not carry a family — found at submission rather than in advance.
The assessment looks at what is registered, in the form it is registered. Correcting it means amending and re-registering the contract — before filing, not after.
A family brought over early, while the sponsor’s own residency is still in progress, ends up overstaying. Fines accrue per person, per day — and an unpaid fine then blocks the residence application it was incurred waiting for.
Where parents are divorced or separated, the file needs the court documentation and consent in acceptable, attested form. Without it, a routine child application stops.
Questions
How much do I need to earn to sponsor my family?
There is a minimum income condition and it can differ depending on who is being sponsored and on the accommodation. We confirm the current requirement against your registered contract rather than quote a figure that may be out of date.
Can I sponsor my wife before my own visa is finished?
No. Your residence visa and Emirates ID must be issued first. Applications filed in parallel are rejected and have to be restarted.
Up to what age can I sponsor my children?
Age conditions apply and they differ for sons and unmarried daughters, with education-related provisions in some cases. It is confirmed per family.
Can I sponsor my parents?
Subject to conditions — income, accommodation, insurance and dependency. More demanding than for a spouse or child, and assessed case by case rather than granted as of right.
My family is here on visit visas. Can they change status without leaving?
Sometimes, depending on the visa held and the current position. It is checked before their visit visas run down, not after.
What happens to my family’s visas if I change job?
They are tied to your sponsorship. A cancellation of your visa affects theirs, and the new sponsorship has to be arranged in sequence. Plan it before you resign.
Our child was born in Dubai. What do we do first?
Birth certificate, attestation, then a passport from the relevant consulate, then residency — in that order, and within a defined period after birth. Starting the visa first does not work.
Can I sponsor a domestic worker?
Subject to your own qualifying position, yes. It is an employment relationship with obligations — permit, contract and insurance — and it should be documented as one.
